How do I stop my steel entry door from squeaking
The door has been installed in this house for at least 15 years. The last
couple years it started squeaking when you open and close the door at the
rubber seal. l dont see any adjustments on the door jam at all. HELP!!!
The noise is driving me nuts!!!
A drop of dish soap on each hinge will take care of the squeak.
If the door is dragging on the threshold, then a solid cardboard shim,
like from a tablet back cover, can be inserted in the bottom hinge.
Unscrew the 4 screws in the bottom hinge on the door a couple of turns.
Slip the 1/4'' x 3'' strip between the hinge & the door, on the pin side,
& retighten the screws. Swing the door to check the operation. If the door
still drags, add a second shim. If you put in more than 1 shim, one should be added to the center hinge for every 2 put in the bottom hinge. This will shift the strike side of the door up, & over to the strike side of the jamb.
wipe cooking oil or motor oil along the the seal
I had the same problem with my fridge and it hasn't squeaked since
WD40 will just evaporate, and since it is mostly kerosene it might be
corrosive to the seal
